Preliminary Analysis of Line One

In spite of rough seas, the team has been able to collect high-quality seismic data and is nearing completion of the first line on the cruise route. In preparation for the completion of line one, Nathan trained the team on Paradigm, the software of choice for analyzing the “traces” (streamer data) collected throughout the cruise. The team has also been monitoring bathymetry and chirp data throughout each shift, using Qimera for bathymetry processing.

The streamer trails uninterrupted behind the research vessel.

Post-streamer deployment, the team members works at computer terminals (including this main control station) to assess whether the streamer, airguns, and recording system are working well.

Nathan explains the first seismic line to Susie, Anastasiia, and Jue Ying.

Nathan, Jue Ying, and Chiara review some processed data in Paradigm (without as much “noise” as the initial results from the streamers).

Among the items displayed on the monitors are: a map of the study region and cruise route that I, Harm, and Nathan generated prior to departure; a radial view of the ship’s lat/long position; terminal windows to run data processing scripts; and Paradigm functionalities to create preliminary visual interpretations of data as it comes in.

Susie, Jue Ying, and Anastasiia examine some of the working data from line one.
