The OBS deployment has been completed! Following a tradition for OBS cruises, we painted a piece of the flotation foam, and attached it to the last OBS that went into the water.

The yellow 'PEZ candy-like’ component of OBS is a syntactic foam. It provides buoyancy forces to OBS, allowing it to float back to the surface.

Savannah and Cassi, the artists who designed and painted our flotation, are exchanging their idea.

Cassi and Savannah designed and painted the flotation with the theme of “flame”. This research expedition is a part of FLAME (FLorida Atlantic Margin Evolution) project, which conducts seismic survey at the Blake Plateau with the research vessel Marcus G. Langseth.

The evening group (Ko, Nick, Leon, Nikko, Savannah, Todd, Sean, and Alan, who took this picture) is deploying the last OBS.
