Wildlife Spotting

Photos and updates provided by Susie, Gloria and the other PSOs, and Jue-Ying.

The Protected Species Observers (PSOs) spotted dolphins off the side of the ship.

Not much food was available for sea life in the water immediately adjacent to the R/V Marcus Langseth, but this Loggerhead sea turtle still made its way over.

The relatively scarce observance of wildlife has been a good thing when it comes to data collection: if whales, dolphins, or sea turtles interfere with the ship and equipment’s trajectory, the team has to shut down the air guns.

The team completes an “abandon ship” drill on deck.
